Whitney K. Barrows handles companies’ toxic tort litigation, products liability litigation, complex civil litigation, and premises litigation in state and federal courts. Whitney represents companies that range from the Fortune 100 to small family-owned companies.
Whitney is part of a national counsel team defending toxic tort products and premises liabilities, a role which involves all aspects of the discovery process and trial preparation in both state and federal courts in a multitude of jurisdictions. In that capacity, she has participated in the development of a nationwide defense, streamlined the discovery process, and has prepared lay witnesses, corporate witnesses and expert witnesses, including medical and scientific experts.
Locally, Whitney represents a wide variety of toxic tort and asbestos defendants in state and federal court. In addition, she is a leader of the court-appointed Massachusetts Asbestos Litigation Defendants’ Liaison Counsel team, including serving on the Executive Committee. In this capacity, Whitney routinely identifies and develops global strategies for the improvement of all defendants in the jurisdiction and spear-heads initiatives to benefit the entire defense group. This work also requires constant communication and negotiation with plaintiffs’ counsel, the Special Master and the Court.
Whitney is well-versed in the steps required to mount a successful defense, from pre-suit investigation through trial, for a wide variety of clients, including product manufacturers and distributors. She has focused, in particular, on the development defense experts, marshalling and coordination of discovery, and preparation of cross-examinations and motions to challenge key plaintiffs' experts.
A native of Colorado, Whitney enjoys horse back riding, working with animals, skiing, and keeping up with professional bull riding. She also enjoys traveling, particularly to visit family in Colorado, Arizona and Greece.
