Overview

Brita is based in the firm’s Portland, Maine office and is Of Counsel to the firm’s toxic tort and products liability practice groups. She concentrates her practice on representing companies in asbestos and talc litigation and has regularly represented product manufacturers, retailers and premise defendants in federal and state court cases in several jurisdictions. Brita manages every stage of litigation, from discovery and motion practice to depositions, expert coordination, and mediation and serves as local, regional and national counsel to companies of all sizes. Brita also has a variety of experience in other areas of civil litigation including environmental, land use enforcement, risk management, landlord-tenant and business disputes, insurance coverage, bankruptcy fee examination, municipal law and personal injury cases.

Experience
  • Litigated and obtained dozens of favorable settlements for clients in high-stakes matters including in asbestos, talc and other product liability cases
  • Drafted and successfully argued summary judgment motions for defendants including product manufacturers in cases alleging that asbestos-containing products were the cause of Plaintiff’s mesothelioma.
  • Serves as liaison counsel between defense counsel and plaintiff’s counsel in Maine litigation.
  • Obtained favorable verdicts in district court actions relating to business and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Authored a chapter on Demonstrative Evidence, MCLE New England/Practical Guide to Evidence in Maine
